Song Lyrics

"Hosanna"

by Dallas Holm
Album: His Last Days

Narrative:
I remember the day I rode into Jerusalem on a colt, just as the prophet had said. For it was written, "rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion, shout, daughter of Jerusalem. See, your king comes to you, righteous, and having salvation, gentle, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Indeed, a great crowd had gathered and began to shout and sing, hosanna, hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. The people thought I had come to establish a new kingdom, and I had, not in Jerusalem, but rather in their hearts. Soon they would decide that my way was not their way, and they would cease to sing and praise their new king. For just as the prophet Isaiah described me, "He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him. Nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces, he was despised and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted." Ah, but for those few moments when they did believe that the fulfillment of the prophets and the hope of the ages had come to them, for that brief moment, all of heaven and all of earth rejoiced!

Chorus:
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna to the King
Praises, praises, praises now we sing

Glory to the King of Kings
Glory to the Lord of Lords
Let our hearts and voices sing, forevermore (forevermore)

Repeat Chorus

Hope of all the ages now
Here we humbly bow before
Singing praises to Thy name, forevermore (forevermore)

Repeat Chorus (x2)

Narrative:
I heard the singing and praising fade away as quickly as it had begun. In a short time, the crowd would raise its voice again, but this time it would not be in praise.
