Song Lyrics

"Molly Is A Metaphor"

by Terry Scott Taylor
Album: Little, Big

I think Molly Bee's a metaphor, or perhaps a simile,
She's mercy in a fat cat's frame,
Like God, she's comforting,
"Relax," she purrs, (she can tell I'm down), "Let's both take a nap,"
She brushes grace, warm against my arm, and crawls in to my lap.

Purring is her secret prayer 'cause she's most concerned for me,
I think Molly is a metaphor, or perhaps a simile.

There was a country music gal, I'd watch her on TV,
I was a little kid in love back then with pretty Molly Bee,
That's how my cat got her last name, (my wife never calls her that, just "Molly") but it seems to be way too common for this cat.

Purring is her secret prayer 'cause she's most concerned for me,
I think Molly is a metaphor, or perhaps a simile.

When she's had a busy day, chasing bugs and such,
When all she does is cry for food, is indifferent to my touch,
I still love her as I watch,
Like God waits here for me.
(da da da da)

She'll come back for comfort soon if I wait here patiently,
She seems to know we're here to share this gentle mystery,
That's when I'm Molly's metaphor or perhaps her simile,
That's when I'm Molly's metaphor or perhaps her simile.
