The first time that I heard your voice
My heart took a leap for joy
I heard in those first tentative words you spoke
The sound of your soul sing to mine

And then you agreed to meet with me
We laughed and played cards over coffee
Then down to the riverside park we drove
Where we walked our hands entwined

Starting
We are starting a new life together
Facing
We are facing toward forever
One step at a time

And though only a month or less had passed
Since we had first met at last
Seemed a hasty surprise seen through other's eyes
Just the slow perfect peace of His time

So we retraced our steps where our hearts first spoke
To the old park bench where our love awoke
And we worshiped awhile 'til I sang you your song
On one knee, "Would you be my wife'"

Starting
We are starting a new life together
Facing
We are facing toward forever
As we tread the steps of this dance
Swirling with sweet romance
Never looking down or letting go
I'll hold you close

One step at a time
We are walking out this new life
So whatever God has joined
Let no one pull apart
