UNREWARDED GENIUS

Words and Music by Danny Oertli ' 1994

John was a young man who liked to write songs
He grew up in Liverpool where he sang all day long
He played guitar on the weekends and he started a band
And the songs that John wrote would soon change the land
Well it didn't take long till John would travel the world
Singing his love songs for every boy and girl
But one day down in New York in a hotel hall
Someone silenced the voice that used to sing for us all

So whatever you do, do it with all of your heart
As working for the Lord not for men
Since you know that your reward will come from above
You just need to trust in him
It's not an unrewarded genius

Vincent was an artist who could paint quit a scene
Using deep blues and oranges to make it seem like a dream
And in the still of the evening he'd paint the heavens just right
Oh Vincent was brilliant on that "Starry Night"
Well some say that Vincent had a genius untold
With an eye full of nature and a hand made of gold
He has pictures and paintings hung high in the land
But when Vincent died he was a lonely man

So whatever you do, do it with all of your heart
As working for the Lord not for men
Since you know that your reward will come from above
You just need to trust in him
It's not an unrewarded genius

Well there once was a Jewish boy who lived long ago
He was born in a stable, He was born in the cold
With men trying to kill him as he traveled the land
He walked Holy and blameless, He was a sinless man
As this boy reached manhood he was something to see
He raised men from the dead and set the people free
But He followed a calling that was higher than Him
He did it all for the glory of God not for men

(Chorus)
